The objective of the study was to identify the species of beetle with a metallic green color, found feeding on flowers and foliage of mango (Mangifera indica L.), in Bágala, Boquerón district, Chiriquí province, Panama (8°29'3” N 82°32'5” W, 127 m asl). The research was conservationist, descriptive and exploratory in nature. The specimens were photographed in the field and some were collected to observe morphological characters in detail, consulting specialized literature and comparing said material with a reference collection to confirm the identity of the insect. According to the results, the species was identified as Macraspis chrysis (L., 1764) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Rutelinae), which in its adult stage has diurnal habits, feeds on flower nectar and, due to its striking coloration, has potential to be used as an ecotourism resource; while, in their larval stages, they feed on rotting wood. M. chrysis is present from Mexico to Paraguay and its presence has been reported in several locations in Panama. In conclusion, knowing more about the biodiversity present in agroecosystems helps to understand the complex dynamics that occur therein, as well as the natural services that can be used for sustainable development.
