The study was carried out under an extensive production system, with rotational grazing of dairy cattle of Gyr, Gyrolando and Gyr/Holstein cross breeds, in the farm "El Progreso", with a total of 40 hectares of land, located in the jungle, in Codo del Pozuzo, Province of Puerto Inca, Department of Huánuco, in order to evaluate the phytomass yield per m2, height of grass to consumption; both of the: Brachiaria common (Brachiaria decumbens) and Brachiaria brizanta (Bachiaria brizantha). These were analyzed using the quadrat method (kg of phytomass/m2); the study was carried out during the dry season (April to September), with the animals returning to the paddocks after 45 days, reaching a total of 4 repetitions or cuts. Our average yield results were 1.63 ± 0.54 kg of phytomass/m2/cut, with 2,282.00 kg/ms/ha with a height of 64.35 ± 15.52 cm. for common Brachiaria (Brachiaria decumbens), while for Brachiaria brizanta (Bachiaria brizantha). 1.54 ± 0.35 kg. of phytomass/m2 with 2,310.00 kg/ms/ha and a height of 67.39 ± 20.47 cm. with no differences between both p>0.05. Concluding that brachiaria comun and brachiaria brizanta, yield similarly in phytomass, height, cover and dry matter, being able to maintain both brachiarias up to 4 AU/ha, during the dry season.
Key words: Brachiaria; cover; phytomass and yield.
